Nearly 40 years ago, pursuant to Decision by Ministry of Transport, Thang Long Bridge Joint Enterprise was founded, responsible for construction of Thang Long Bridge – the symbol of national development. It initiated the formation and development of Thang Long Construction Corporation. Given the first product of the imposing Thang Long Bridge, a brand of “Thang Long builder” has been asserted through the construction of bridges bringing happiness across the country.
Sharing with us, Mr Phan Quoc Hieu, Director General, said that Thang Long Construction Corporation has gone through periods of subsidy mechanism and market mechanism. Whichever mechanism it was in, Thang Long Corporation promoted its best internal force to overcome difficulties and grasp opportunities to study and master technical advances and latest technologies to turn them into potential and assets for the corporation’s development.
Personnel are the most valuable asset
At its foundation, Thang Long Bridge Joint Enterprise was composed of dependent members. So far, Thang Long Construction Corporation has expanded into parent company-subsidy company model with nearly 30 members. Its power has been affirmed through continuous projects and works from big bridges such as Chuong Duong, Mai Linh, Ben Thuy, Gianh River, Kien, Yen Lenh, Trung Ha and more recent Vinh Tuy and Thanh Tri Bridges, to several in Laos.
Such success was the result of tireless efforts in personnel training and development activity. The field of bridge construction, which requires complicated techniques and high quality, demands skilled and qualified workers. After each period, the corporation has trained a team of highly qualified constructors, engineers and experts who are good at design, technology, construction monitoring and production organization.
Therefore, the famed Thang Long Bridge constructors are always leaders in accessing and applying modern bridge construction technologies in Vietnam, which is the foundation for the current stature of Thang Long Construction Corporation. It has followed the advice of late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong in his visit there: “It’s precious to build bridges, however, the more valuable thing lies in training skilled staff and workers.”
Reform for development
Keeping pace with national reforms, Thang Long Construction Corporation has been active in adapting to the market mechanism. Following the agenda of reforming state enterprises, the corporation has privatized 14 units, changed 02 units into dependent accounting ones and 02 administrative ones, shifted operation from State Corporation to parent –subsidy company model. The motto of “development in depth, efficiency improvement” is observed in the context of market fluctuations.
The heritage from preceding generations of leaders at Thang Long Construction Corporation is a dynamic, creative and decisive work style. Mechanism of publicity and transparency has always been conducted in administration. Especially, the policy of “Reforming economic contract relations between parent company and subsidy ones and associates based on principles of profitable business, transparent mechanism, precise contract, fair relation, ensured quality and beating progress” has made up the corporation’s power during project implementation.
Thus, in the context of market fluctuations, Thang Long Construction Corporation has completed various big projects. The brand of “Thang Long Construction Corporation” has been built up by the efforts of the leaders. As a result, once assigning Thang Long Construction Corporation, investors have been totally ensured about quality and progress. It is not only the stuff of “Thang Long builder” but also a responsibility for community and national development.
