Hue General Hospital recently celebrated the attainment of the International Accreditation Standards for its Microbiology Laboratory, with an official ceremony attended by representatives from the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Family Health International (FHI360), and delegates from the Vietnamese Government.

With funding from the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), CDC Vietnam, in collaboration with FHI360, has implemented a program to assist the Government of Vietnam to transition six central and provincial level medical laboratories, to international standards of operation.

After 18 months of this intensive program, three of the six laboratories, including Hue General Hospital, have successfully received ISO 15189 accreditation issued by the Bureau of Accreditation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, and it is anticipated that two more laboratories will be receiving their accreditation in the next two to three months.

This accreditation makes certain that laboratories operate at internationally recognized levels, adopting Quality Management Systems that improve efficiency, ensure more reliable test results, and enhance overall health care for clients who access services at government sites.
