70 Pct of Mountain Residents Access Clean Water

Clean water accessibility was the centre of discussion at a conference on environment projects from 2011 to 2020 recently held in Ha Giang province. By 2015, Vietnam targets to provide clean water for 70 percent of residents in four rock mountain districts of Dong Van, Meo Vac, Quan Ba and Yen Minh in Ha Giang province - a land widely known for land and water scarcity.

Some government-funded projects supplied clean water for people on rock mountains. Beneficiary districts used a lot of methods to extract the water like wells, natural running water, “hung” lakes or reservoirs. They built 397 water supply facilities, including 319 running water items and 76 “hung” lakes. Over 30 percent of residents have been benefited from these projects.

However, after a short period, 198 natural running water facilities and 10 “hung” lakes were seriously broken because of extreme weather, poor protection and slow repairing.

Water supply is a top task of the provincial government of Ha Giang in the coming time.
