Accelerating Green Growth in Coastal Cities
A conference on “Green growth in coastal cities” was recently organised by the Vietnam Development Information Centre (VDIC). This was part of a series of “Green economy towards sustainable development” conferences in Vietnam.
The conference delved into major opportunities and challenges to promote green growth in the context of rapid urbanisation in coastal cities and increase mega-cities in developing countries, especially in South Asia - Pacific.
According to experts, to mitigate impacts of urbanization process on marine environment and fully tap marine economic potentials, coastal cities are encouraged to use land for various purposes, create different traffic options, weigh up urban planning in order to create favourable conditions for coastal and riverside people to take local advantage.
