Strengthening Cooperation in Biodiversity Conservation

The Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment recently organised a meeting on coordinating contents in biodiversity conservation activities between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
 
Accordingly, coordinating contents include developing and issuing national strategies on biodiversity till 2020 and towards 2030; building and implementing natural conservation zone assessment projects governed by the Law on Biodiversity and the Government’s Decree 65/2010/ND-CP; implementing, reviewing and building biodiversity conservation systems; unifying wetland and inland water conservation zone management; completing and submitting national programmes on tiger conservation until 2022; coordinating the formulation and promulgation of legal documents concerning State management on biodiversity governed by the Law on Biodiversity and Law on Forest Protection and Development.
 
PParticipants actively discussed suggestions for perfection of reporting contents and draft regulations on coordination between the two ministries. The regulations are scheduled for promulgation in August 2012.
Nguyen The Dong, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Environment Administration, said: The two ministries necessarily reach consensus in building coordinating regulations on biodiversity conservation, including building legal documents on biodiversity conservation, building national strategies and plans for biodiversity conservation, and reviewing conservation areas, and inspecting biodiversity conservation. The coordination between the two ministries is urgent to enforce the Law on Biodiversity and related legal documents.
