Leaders of the financial sector will gather at the Vietnam Finance 2012 conference, which will take place on September 20-21 in Hanoi, to discuss the application of information technology (IT) in public finance management.

The conference will be jointly held by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the International Data Group (IDG) on the theme “Strengthening fiscal sustainability through the medium-term budget framework and modern technological solutions.”

Head of the Department of Financial Informatics and Statistics Dang Duc Mai told the media that the conference will focus on using effective IT solutions to reform budget planning and allocation.

The workshop will also discuss ways to complete the national financial database in order to improve public finance services and accelerate administrative reforms as part of the national strategy to modernise the financial sector.

Mai said the conference will include two plenary and two scientific sessions, as well as in-depth discussions for leading experts in the field to share the experiences of regional countries in applying IT to enhance public finance management.

In addition to the main programme, Vietnam Finance 2012 will host an exhibition of IT solutions for the financial sector with the participation of major corporations such as Oracle and Schneider Electrics.

The conference was first held in 2004 under the name Vietnam ICT in Finance. It was renamed Vietnam Finance in 2011 to cover more diverse issues related to modernising public finance in Vietnam.
