Overcoming challenges and seeking opportunities of business development in the time of economic difficulty, Phu Thinh Co., Ltd not only stabilises operations but also expands operational scopes to provide more jobs for local people. And, Phu Dat Production - Trading Company was set up in Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province for that humanity purpose.

Affiliated to HCM City-based Phu Thinh Co., Ltd, Phu Dat Production - Trade Co., Ltd chose Go Cong Dong, an outlying district of Tien Giang province, to start operations. The company encountered numerous difficulties in early days because of poor infrastructure and insufficient employment. With its total investment of VND45 billion, Phu Dat started exporting its products, thus ending reliance on its parent company in HCM City.

The company is now running an approximately 5,000 m2 workshop, a 1,000 m2 office and warehouse, and modern equipment and machinery imported from Japan. Phu Dat specialises in manufacturing clean farming tools like garden tool, watering tool, pot, sunshade net, pest net, and intruder net. It also manufactures cages for fish farming and trapping, ropes and nets for construction. Up to 80 percent of its products are exported to the Japanese market.

The presence of Phu Dat has helped the government of Go Cong Dong implement social security and step up the new countryside construction process. The company now has more employees, mostly locals. From 2011, it started local people making scallop cage nets. Currently, about 100 households are making scallop cage nets for a good, regular income.

Speaking of Phu Dat’s products, CEO and President Pham Duc Thuyen said: “The company’s products are used for clean agriculture and made from modern technology. Hence, the company sees great potential for production expansion. Currently its agricultural and aquacultural nets are seeing 50 percent growth in demand. Phu Dat has received orders for full production from now to July 2013. This can be considered the initial achievement that serves as an impetus for the future development of the company.”
But, to operate better and contribute more to local economic development and local people's livelihoods, apart from the company’s efforts, the support of local government is very important. Currently, Phu Dat is experiencing difficulties in infrastructure like power shortage, saline water disqualified for industrial production, and transportation load limits on National Highway 50 and provincial roads that force the company’s containers to go on much longer routes. If these problems are solved, Phu Dat will surely make further steps and contribute more to economic development of Tien Giang province and the Mekong Delta region.
