Than Chau Ngoc Viet with Precious Stone Inlaid Paintings for Export
The inlaying of precious stones and jade into paintings is an artistic job which is a melding of the creative ideas and skilful hands of the artisan. After 14 years of study, artisan Dao Trong Cuong, general director of the Than Chau Ngoc Viet Jewellery Company, has succeeded in inlaying ruby, sapphire, spinel, opal, chancedony, beryl, tourmaline, aquamarine and topaz precious stones into paintings. Now, precious stone inlaid paintings under the trademark of Than Chau Ngoc Viet have found foothold in foreign markets.
The Than Chau Ngoc Viet Jewellery Company is a 100 per cent Vietnamese owned enterprise, specialising in exploiting and processing jade and precious stones for domestic and export markets.
Artisan Cuong said that it was difficult to find and exploit a precious stone mine but it was even more difficult to process precious stones, turning them into fine art items and inlaying them into paintings with specific meanings. Different from paintings and art works of traditional materials, including mother-of-pearl, wood and silk, the paintings of Than Chau Ngoc Viet use specific techniques based on the natural colours of precious stones. Natural precious stones which are disqualified from use in jewellery production are used for inlaying paintings. They are classified according to their colours and sizes so that artisans can choose them to express their ideas and make their works uniquely lively. All precious stones are examined by the Vietnam Precious Stone and Jewellery Institute. Therefore, all designs in the paintings of Than Chau Ngoc Viet are guaranteed to be made using genuine precious stones and jade. Each painting has its own design with precious stones selected for their suitability with the colours of the painting, which are evaluated by experienced artisans. Skilled workers with knowledge of arts and precious stones create paintings according to their own design. Workers are required to be creative and carefully arrange each small precious stone in the creation. Artisan Cuong oversees all work. Each painting is complemented by a frame which highlights its theme.
Artisan Cuong said that apart from the value of precious stones inlaid on paintings, Than Chau Ngoc Viet's paintings have been highly appreciated in the domestic and foreign markets for their artistic merit. Paintings of Than Chau Ngoc Viet have different themes, including modern and classical. These include paintings of the
