The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Embassy of Poland in Vietnam recently organised the Poland – Vietnam Environmental Protection Forum. This is an important event during the official visit to Vietnam of Poland’s Deputy Minister of Environment Beata Jacsewska, accompanied by leading Polish enterprises engaged in environmental work.
Being a country with a large amount of waste, Vietnam’s processing technology is still limited. Up to 90 percent of waste is landfilled, and only a very small amount of waste is sorted and processed into compost. This causes environmental pollution, and is a waste of land and a lot of recyclable waste. Some places such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have begun piloting incineration technology. However this technology has not been widely disseminated and its efficiency is not high. " Poland -Vietnam Environmental Protection Forum" will be an opportunity to share, cooperate and transfer the most advanced technologies in the field of environmental management between the two countries, and at the same time promote cooperation and investment between the two countries.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Cach Tuyen of Natural Resources and Environment in Vietnam, along with overheated economic growth in recent times, the development of science and technology combined with the urbanization process have caused environmental challenges for Vietnam such as pollution and waste. With policy measures, Vietnam has always been interested in the improvement of the organizational structure to strengthen and diversify the sources of investment, promoting scientific research and strengthening international cooperation on environmental protection. Vietnam is trying to build a green economy through the attraction of environment-friendly and energy saving technologies. However, pollution and waste is still a challenge for businesses and policy makers. He also stressed that Poland has made significant achievements in environmental protection. Through the forum, Vietnam hopes to learn a lot from Poland's experience. The businesses engaged in environment fields of the two countries will also find many possibilities of cooperation and investment promotion.

Poland’s Deputy Minister Beata Jacsewska said that Vietnam’s situation currently is the same as that of Poland about 20 years ago. Today, environmental protection is a priority in the basic socio-economic development of Poland. Most of the current environmental protection technologies of Poland were invented and owned by Polish companies. In addition, Poland is also focused on developing a green economy and supporting environmental technology companies in international cooperation, and Poland wants to support Vietnam with these technologies, especially in management, treatment and recovery of waste, and city and industrial wastewater treatment with low activated sludge method. According to Deputy Minister Beata Jacsewska, there are also some technology and environment businesses of Poland cooperating with Vietnamese businesses in areas such as: wastewater management, waste management, and renewable energy. In the future, this relation will be strengthened and expanded. Environmental protection projects of both Vietnam and Poland will also be a positive factor with a strong impact on the traditional friendly relations between the two nations.

Dr Hoang Tran Dong, Chairman of Cte Carbotech Engineering Vietnam Co.,Ltd., a Vietnam-Poland joint venture in environmental protection, said that economic development situation of Vietnam now presents more concerns about environmental protection and waste disposal. In many urban areas, industrial hazardous wastes are not classified separately, they are buried with household waste which causes serious environmental pollution. The type of garbage, sewage containing various pollutants should require appropriate treatment. According to Mr Dong, economic environmental protection in Vietnam is in the period of development, the field of environmental protection in Vietnam is facing many opportunities and challenges. Vietnam needs the help and support from other countries in the world and from Poland in particular. As one of the first and largest business ventures of Vietnam and Poland in the field of environmental protection, in the future, CTE Carbotech Engineering Vietnam will pursue more activities to promote the treatment of public waste, municipal solid waste, and industrial solid waste, as well as investment in consulting in the areas of technology related to environmental protection in particular, and to promoting cooperation between the two countries in general.
Also at the forum, a number of Polish enterprises introduced to Vietnam Poland's most advanced technology in waste management and disposal, and environmental protection, such as: Fuel Cal technology management and waste treatment for the meat and food processing industry; Q energy gasification technology to control engine emissions; and T-Technology processing of plastic waste generated in industrial facilities and households and turning them into liquid fuel.
