USAID Funds over US$40 Million for Vietnam’s Climate Change Response
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will support Vietnam in addressing the effects of climate change and land use through two separate five-year programmes in clean energy, adaptation and sustainable landscapes.
The two programs, worth over US$40 million, will be conducted from October 2012 and October 2017. They fit the Vietnamese Government’s ongoing policies and programmes on climate change, including newly issued Green Growth Strategy. This funding is the biggest and first of the USAID in the field in Vietnam.
The first US$29 million Vietnam Forest and Deltas Programme, will focus on adopting land use practices to address deforestation and degradation of forests and other landscapes and increasing the resilience of people, places and livelihoods in delta areas through assistance for adaptation and disaster risk management. It will be implemented with cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and relevant government agencies.
The second US$12 million Vietnam Clean Energy Programme will examine ways to effectively acquire, manage, analyse and use energy sector data and boost energy efficiency in high use sectors.
