The People’s Committee of Danang City, via the Steering Committee for Response to Climate Change and Sea Level Rise (CCCO), and the French consultant company, Asconit, have signed a research contract supporting the city in drawing up a local climate strategy. The contract will serve as a model and if it is implemented successfully, it will be applied in other localities in the country.

The research contract, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), lies within the framework of the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC), initiated jointly by AFD and JICA in 2009. Since then, AFD has funded EUR60 million for the programme.

Prior to the International conference on Climate change (COP 18) in Doha, the signed research contract marked a new phase of France’s and AFD’s commitments to support Vietnamese authorities in tackling climate change issues. Over the 2006 - 2012 period, AFD has provided EUR342.5 million to Vietnam through 12 development projects, joining local efforts in responding to climate change and adapting to its effects.
