Coal Conveyor for Mao Khe Thermoelectricity Plant Launched
A coal supply system for the Mao Khe Thermoelectric Power Plant in Dong Trieu district, Quang Ninh province was put into operation on November 11.
The construction of the conveyor began in December 2011 with a total investment of nearly VND310 billion (US$14.8 million). The enclosed conveyor has a total length of 3.6 kilometres and the capacity to transport 2.1 million tonnes of coal per year or 500 tonnes per hour.
The conveyor will replace the transport of coal by trucks and is expected to ensure environmental sanitation and traffic safety.
Invested by the Vietnam Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the Mao Khe Thermoelectric Power Plant has a capacity of 440MW and consumes coal dust from Mao Khe, Trang Bach, Khe Chuoi and Hong Thai mines to generate electricity.
The construction of the plant commenced in 2009 on 72 hectares in Dong Trieu district, Quang Ninh province at a total cost of over US$577 million.
