Chevron Vietnam Ltd., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation recently announced that Chevron Vietnam and the U.S. Fund for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria are partnering with the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) of the Ministry of Health to help prevent mother to child transmission of HIV in Vietnam.

“Around the world Chevron supports programmes that enable the social and economic development of our local communities,” said Hank Tomlinson, Country Manager for Chevron Vietnam. “Our contribution to the U.S. Fund for the Global Fund will enable pregnant women in Vietnam to receive HIV testing and counselling. The US$1 million programme in Vietnam will also provide HIV positive women who are pregnant with Antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to reduce the mother-to-child transmission of HIV, among other beneficial programs designed to fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS.”

Reduction in mother to child transmission is one of the key objectives of Vietnam’s recently approved National Strategy for HIV Prevention and Control until 2020. Chevron has committed a total of US$25 million between 2011 and 2013 to the U.S. Fund for the Global Fund, a U. S. nonprofit established to encourage individuals, corporations and charities to provide support for the mission of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The U.S. Fund for the Global Fund has applied the first US$1 million of Chevron’s current commitment to support the Global Fund’s HIV and AIDS grant in Vietnam.
