Connecting Vietnamese Localities with African and Middle Eastern Markets
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) coordinated with the People’s Committee of Ha Giang province to organise the conference on business opportunities with African and Middle Eastern markets in Ha Giang province on November 27, 2012. This was part of a series of trade promotion activities between Vietnamese provinces and cities, and African and Middle Eastern markets.
Speaking at the conference, VCCI Vice President Doan Duy Khuong said Africa and the Middle East are vast markets with rich natural resources, abundant labour force, and high consumer demand. Vietnam holds advantages in many commodities, especially rice, agricultural products, seafood, and manufactured goods, to export to these markets. Spending power in the Middle East is high thanks to income from the oil industry. This conference aimed to expand opportunities of cooperation and business for enterprises in the province to export to Africa and the Middle East in the coming time.
Mr Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee, said this forum was an opportunity for businesses in Ha Giang to promote cooperation and approach Africa and Middle East markets. Representatives from the VCCI International Relations Committee introduced Africa and Middle East markets and provided basic information about these markets. Despite different geographical, cultural and political characteristics and political instability in some countries, African and Middle East countries always looks to sustainability and development cooperation.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Son said Ha Giang has many advantages to attract investment because it is adjacent to the large market of Yunnan province, China, and has Thanh Thuy National Border Gate. The province is also famous for tourism potentials, particularly Dong Van Global Geopark. However, the province remains poor and its investment attractiveness is weak. Hence, the province hopes VCCI will provide opportunities and introduce potential investors. He also asked the provincial business association to introduce potentials and opportunities in Africa and Middle East markets.
