Vietnamese Entrepreneurs - Main Actors of the Economy

October 13 has been dedicated by the Prime Minister as Vietnamese Entrepreneur Day. On October 12, VCCI in conjunction with the Ho Chi Minh Political Academy, Vietnam Fatherland Front,  Prime Minister's Research Board, People's Daily and Vietnam Television organised a seminar in Hanoi: Development of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs in the period of industrialisation and modernisation. Entrepreneurs have contributed their views to the development of a strong national contingent of entrepreneurs.

Three years ago, the Prime Minister's Research Board organised a seminar on "Vietnamese entrepreneurs in the renovation process". However, at that time entrepreneurs had a low profile and conditions for their development were limited. Today, the business environment has seen great improvement and authorities at all levels have recognised the important role of entrepreneurs in national economic development. The decision of the Prime Minister to make October 13 Vietnamese Entrepreneur Day constitutes recognition of the important role of entrepreneurs in the economy. VCCI President Vu Tien Loc pointed out: "Continuing the research of the first seminar, the seminar this time will define more clearly the role, characteristics, challenges faced and in particular solutions for developing today's entrepreneurs to the next stage".

Participants have discussed on the role of the government and related central and local authorities in the training and development of Vietnamese entrepreneurs and the latter's role in society. The discussion was also directed at the quality of entrepreneurs and the legal and cultural environment guiding their activities towards national objectives.

Mr Nguyen Tien Vo, member of Presidium, Vietnam Fatherland Front, pointed out that entrepreneurs are the main agents of the economic development of the country. They increase income and generate jobs for people, develop markets, services and trade, helping to restructure the economy in line with national orientations and market demand.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, VCCI Vice President and Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Council, emphasised on the role of women in Vietnamese society. They are present in all business sectors, making up 25 per cent of the leading posts in over 140,000 enterprises. Their participation not only represents the nation's progress towards gender equality but also their practical and efficient contribution to national reconstruction and development.

National Entrepreneur Day has honoured those who are at the forefront of national reconstruction and at the same time reiterates the responsibility of the entrepreneurs toward the community. The development of entrepreneurs and the economic system will ensure a strong economy in the future.
