France Confers Legion of Honour Medal to Ton Nu Thi Ninh

French Ambassador to Vietnam, Jean-Noel Poirier, presented the Legion of Honour Order of the Commander degree to veteran diplomat Ton Nu Thi Ninh Ninh at the French Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. She was awarded the Legion of Honour Order of the Officer degree after the 1997 Francophone Summit in Hanoi.
 
As a teacher, a diplomat and a politician, Ms Ninh has been ceaselessly contributing to the development and the integration of Vietnam into the international community. This enabled her to maintain close ties with France. One of the most outstanding Vietnamese students in the French education system, she went on to be a lecturer at the University of Fontenay-aux-Roxes (Paris) in 1964. From 1969 to 1972, she lectured English literature at Paris University 3.
 
She was named the head of International Organisations Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was promoted to the assistant to the minister. She was the chief organiser of the Francophone Summit 1997 in Hanoi. From 2000 to 2003, she was the Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and Head of the Vietnamese Delegation at the European Commission in Brussels. From 2003 to 2007, she worked as Deputy Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee for North America and Western Europe.
