Fourth Asian Forum on 3R Model Opened in Hanoi
The Fourth Regional Asia Forum on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R) was recently organised in Hanoi.
The forum, initiated by the Ministry of the Environment of the Government of Japan (MoEJ) and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) since 2004, has produced important results and contributions to sustainably environmental protection. Currently, the world economic growth is slowing down, and mankind is facing a number of environmental issues, such as biodiversity degradation and climate change. The forum will help promote high-level policy dialogues to deal with 3R-related issues, as well as solid waste management, sustainable production and consumption, and reasonable material circulation.
Being profoundly aware of the importance of waste management, Vietnam issued the National Strategy for Environmental Protection, the National Strategy on Green Growth, and especially the Solid Waste Management Strategy to 2025, with a vision to 2050. These strategies underscore tasks and measures to promote reduction, reuse and recycling of waste, to reduce the amount of solid waste generated, land-filled and thus reduce pollution caused by solid wastes, while accelerating green growth and sustainable development.
