FOOD & DRINK EXPO 2004 to Be Opened in HCM City

Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Trade will co-organise the food and drink trade fair 2004 at Ho Chi Minh City-based Tao Dan Park between December 24, 2004 and January 2, 2005. 150 enterprises are expected to showcase their products at the fair. As of November 5, as many as 96 enterprises registered for the fair and the deadline is December 15, 2004. The registration fee for 9-sq.m stalls stands at VND4.5 million (US$286.6) each.

Vice chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association, Le Nhu Ai said that the fair aims to introduce secured-quality food and drinks and special-used technological equipment to local and foreign consumers, and gear towards a nationally and internationally specialised trade fair in the years to come. The main products of sweets and biscuits, drinks, frozen and processed seafood, fast-food, nutrient and industrial food, canned food, farm produce, processed agricultural products, sauce, raw materials and so on will be on display. In addition to the stalls, the Organising Board will open the selection labelled "Safe and Fine-quality Food" to win credit for products, helping consumers to identify suitable products. Meanwhile, the seminar entitled "Food Safety and Hygiene" targets to show methods and criteria, and instruct producers and consumers to obey food safety requirements for the sake of themselves and the community.

Food and drinks are potential exports thanks to their high competitiveness. Vietnamese content of the products remains at a high level as a result of low proportion of imported raw materials and equipment. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee counts much upon this group of products. The committee assists VND400 million (US$25,478) for the fair and makes great efforts to turn it into an export fair next time.
