GDP Estimated to Rise 5.42 Percent in 2013

The General Statistics Office (GSO) said Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2013 was estimated to expand 5.42 percent over 2012. Specifically, GDP grew 4.76 percent in the first quarter, 5 percent in the second quarter, 5.54 percent in the third quarter and 6.04 percent in the fourth quarter. The growth was short of the target of 5.5 percent set for the year, but was higher than last year’s growth of 5.25 percent.
 
The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors enlarged 2.67 percent, contributing 0.48 percentage points to the overall growth; industry and construction increased 5.43 percent, contributing 2.09 percentage points; and services leaped 6.56 percent, contributing 2.85 percentage points.
