Diamond Bay Resort & Spa is nestled in a tropical wonderland, between the Cam Ranh International Airport and Nha Trang City, where the impeccable combination of rivers, mountains, and the sapphire blue ocean is an attraction in itself. It has become a must-visit destination for tourists coming to Nha Trang. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Nguyen Tuan Jonh, Deputy General Director of Diamond Bay Resort & Spa, on its business performance and the investment climate of Khanh Hoa province. Quoc Hung reports.

Diamond Bay Resort & Spa is quite famous and attracts many tourists when they come to Nha Trang. Would you kindly tell us your highlight achievements so far?
I could go on and on about the many improvements that we have made along the years, but to me, our greatest achievement so far is the development of our brand standards. Diamond Bay has a clearly defined, collective vision that the whole team shares.

We have built a durable brand culture that not many companies can accomplish, strictly because we have strong values towards employee welfare and a happy work environment. Every moment we seize, we are sharing our wonderful culture with all our guests and business partners alike. We are proud of what we do here.

When you step foot onto our grand property, you are in our world. But at the same time, you are the world to us.

In Nha Trang and whole country in general there are now many beautiful resorts with good quality services. How do you feel about this competition and what advantages do you have?
I really admire and respect the level of healthy competition throughout Vietnam, it keeps us all on our toes, pressuring each other to uphold quality while keeping prices reasonable, as well as developing our own ways to differentiate from others while keeping our integrity intact. A lot of work and investment has been done within the past few years, and with the major influx of new markets discovering Vietnam, I hope this continues for the overall good of the industry and our country.

I believe our advantages lie in the sheer size and strategic location of all our properties in Nha Trang City, as well as the opportunities those advantages pose for expansion. We have a vast network of subsidiaries and sister companies that provide support and allow cross-promotional activities with one another. These include: Diamond Bay Resort & Spa, Diamond Bay Golf & Villas, 100 Egg Cultural Park, Nha Trang Centre, Diamond Bay Holidays and Lunar Lounge, all conjoined in harmony, with more on the horizon.

To attract more tourists and to improve even more for ultimate guest satisfaction, what investments or strategies does Diamond Bay have for upcoming time?
Usually I love surprising everyone, but for the sake of the interview, I could share a statement about our overall outlook for the next few years in Nha Trang City. We see the vast potential of networks and partners, establishing new subsidiaries and alliances that will broaden business opportunities and provide mutual benefits to the city as a whole. We have meticulously planned key phases in our growth, targeting each market segment and industry. To us, it is just a matter of “where” and “when”.

But that is not all, it is one thing to follow trends in the market, it is another to create one.

What steps should Khanh Hoa Tourism take to attract more tourists and maintain the tourism brand name for the city?
Without a doubt, the gravity is pulling towards Nha Trang City, with more and more direct flights from major cities such as Seoul, South Korea and Moscow, Russia. I believe the exposure will only continue to grow as new markets take notice of these major cities with direct flights to our city.

Regarding the prospective initiatives the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism could take: I had an interesting experience in the lovely town of Hoi An where, upon arriving, I received an SMS message welcoming me to the town and providing me with a hotline for information. To me, it is these little things that make up the big things. Attention to detail will go a long way. Our province sees travellers from all parts of the globe, and I hope we could make them feel welcome in every way that we can, starting with “welcome SMS messages”!

As of right now, our Tourism Association is going through reform, all hotels, resorts, and other organizations have begun to band together to establish a brand name for Nha Trang City. With updated information, websites and official city maps, we are in the process of “Destination Marketing”. We will take all measures for maximum brand visibility towards new markets in the next coming years.

Regarding the current business and investment environment in Khanh Hoa, what do you think about the government’s efforts in creating a favourable business and investment environment?
With all the new Foreign and Domestic Investment going on around the province, I am confident the Khanh Hoa government is on the right track in creating favourable business and investment opportunities for small and large businesses/entrepreneurs to flourish. Opportunities are at every corner, in every sector, and I am proud that our province is capitalizing on every one of them to be a formidable economic powerhouse of Central Vietnam. Our ever-increasing GDP speaks for itself, and I believe our quiet town is not so quiet anymore.
