Car Import from China Surges 289 Pct
Vietnam imported over 35,000 automobiles worth nearly US$880 million in the first four months of 2015, up 131 percent in volume and 180.6 percent in value year on year, said the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Specifically, cars with nine seats or fewer accounted for 13,200 units, up 89.3 percent year on year, followed by trucks with 12,930 units, up 93.6 percent; and other vehicles with 8,890 units, up 5.9 times. In April 2015, automobile imports fell slightly over the previous month, standing at more than 9,900 units valued at US$294 million, up 9 percent in value.
In the reporting period, Vietnam imported 8,860 units from China, up 289 percent year on year, followed by South Korea with 7,740 units, up 48 percent; Thailand with 6,850 units, up 165 percent; India with 5,700 units, up 164 percent; and Japan with 2,290 units, up 120 percent.
