Vietnam Assembles over 42,600 Automobiles in 2004 

Automobile manufacturers in Vietnam are estimated to have assembled 42,651 automobiles this year, representing a year-on-year decrease of 9.5 per cent, according to the government General Statistics Office (GSO).

In December alone, the automakers turned out 5,378 automobiles, down 6.8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Foreign-invested firms led the auto industry, with 38,164 units in the year (down 4.8 per cent on year) and 4,862 in December, the private sector turned out 1,033 units (up 52.1 per cent) and 136 units (up 76.6 per cent), respectively, and the state-owned sector produced 3,454 (down 49.1 per cent) and 380 (down 76.3 per cent), respectively.

Eleven foreign-led automobile assemblers sold 32,847 units in the January-November period, down 6 per cent on year.
