VN, US Ink Joint Vision Statement On Defence Relations
Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh anh his US counterpart Ashton Carter signed a Joint Vision Statement on Defence Relations in Ha Noi on June 1.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, the two sides stressed the importance of the statement, demonstrating a new stage in the two countries’ defence ties.
The statement will guide the bilateral defense cooperation on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on advancing defense cooperation inked by the two countries in 2011.
It will help enhance friendship ad mutual understanding and trust, deepen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership for the sake of the two countries, and contribute to maintaining for peace and stability in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific.
US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter is now on an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh.
During his stay, Mr Ashton Carter will also pay courtesy calls to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang.
