86 Pct of Listings Profitable in Q1, 2016

According to the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), when the season of first-quarter financial statement was over, 373 out of 379 HNX-listed companies announced their 2016 first-quarter earnings reports. This number excluded four companies (GLT, VTL, IDV and MHL) as they changed their fiscal year periods.
 
Net profit of HNX-listed companies totalled VND2,867 billion, an increase of approximately 1 per cent from the same period of 2015. 319 listed companies, or 86 per cent of the total, reported business results, featured by VND3,060 billion of profit, up 3.55 per cent year on year. Industrial companies had best business results, with 104 profitable companies which fetched VND949 billion of profit, accounting for 31 per cent of the total profit value. The financial sector had 25 profitable companies, which earned VND898 billion, accounting for 29.3 per cent, and the trade and accommodation sector had 43 companies with a combined profit of VND467 billion, accounting for 15.2 per cent of the total profit.
 
Up to 50 companies incurred losses, accounting for 14 per cent of listings. They suffered losses of VND193 billion, up 67.97 per cent from the same period of 2015. Among unprofitable companies, the industrial sector had 12 loss-making firms with a combined loss value of VND65 billion, followed by mining and oil-gas sectors with respective loss value of VND59 billion and 28 billion.
