The Memorandum of Discussion on the Project on Promotion of Inclusive Gender-responsive Financial Support through the Vietnam Women's Union” was signed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Vietnam and the Vietnam Women’s Union in Hanoi on November 28, 2018.

The Technical Cooperation Project is expected to be launched from March 2019 to March 2021 in order to strengthen the capacity of the Vietnam Women's Union in promoting the development and delivery of financial and non-financial services to meet local women’s needs.

Within the framework of the project, JICA and the Vietnam Women’s Union will closely cooperate in carrying out training for financial service providers (e.g. formal microfinance institutions, microfinance programmes, commercial banks, etc.) with basic knowledge of inclusive gender-responsive finance and good practices from other countries.

At the same time, the project will support some financial service providers to develop new products that meet diverse needs at different stages of a woman's life. Lessons learned from the project will be shared with Vietnamese policymakers for the development of comprehensive financial incentives.

In Vietnam, only 31 per cent of adults have bank accounts, 14 per cent of adults have savings deposits at financial institutions, and 21 per cent borrow from formal financial institutions.
