Saudi Arabia Likely to Import 100,000 Vietnamese Workers in 2005
Saudi Arabia expects to receive 100,000 Vietnamese workers this year, a conference between the Saudi Arabian National Labor Recruitment Council (Sanarcom) and the Overseas Labor Management Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) early this week in Hanoi.
A laborer will get an average month wage of US$150 when they do manual work in the foreign country, representatives of the council said. The salary will increase to between US$400 and US$1,000 for a skilled worker.
The income and working conditions for Vietnamese workers in Saudi Arabia are similar to Malaysia, which is the second largest labor importer of Vietnamese, the department compared.
Some seven million overseas employees are now working in Saudi Arabia, including 85 per cent coming from Asian countries.
Vietnam sent 12,000 workers abroad in the first two months of this year, a significant rise from 5,500 in the same period last year.
Taiwan was the largest labor importer of Vietnamese workers during the period, followed by Malaysia, Laos, Britain, Denmark, Palau, and Saudi Arabia.
Vietnam plans to export 70,000 employees this year.
