World Bank Parliamentarians Working in Vietnam

Members of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB) are paying a visit to Vietnam from March 21 to 24 with an aim to address development issues and promote understanding of economic activities in the country.

The delegates are members from the parliaments of 13 countries: the US, France, Belgium, Italy, India, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Greece, Sweden, the Philippines, Kazakhstan and Canada.

During the four-day trip, the guests will visit development projects in Vietnam, meeting with managers and local staff. They will also exchange experiences and ideas with deputies of the Vietnam National Assembly (NA) about development.

The delegation is slated to work with the Ministry of Planning and Investment on hunger and poverty issues, discussing progress on Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) with Vietnamese NA and the Prime Minister’s Research Committee

Delegates will also journey to the central province of Ninh Thuan to survey poverty alleviation and survey the WB’s projects there, meeting with poor families and visiting the coral protection project in Hon Mun, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province, working with Ho Chi Minh City officials.

The PNoWB was established five years ago. It began as an informal network of parliamentarians interested in the work of the World Bank and development. Today the PNoWB is a non-profit association under French law, which gathers together over 140 parliamentarians from 60 countries.

The purpose of the PNoWB is both to increase parliamentary involvement and effectiveness in the field of international development and to encourage dialogue between MPs and the World Bank.
