The American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham) honored its members’ best corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs at a ceremony presided over by U.S. Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Marie C. Damour. The seventh annual AmCham CSR Recognition Awards recognized 39 companies that assisted Vietnam and the Vietnamese people during the pandemic period in Vietnam.
These companies have demonstrated they understand the linkages between business operations and society, and conduct business in a way that creates both long-term economic and social value in Vietnam.
AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award Program is designed to raise awareness of CSR among AmCham members and the community, and to provide recognition to firms with best practice CSR programs in Vietnam.
In remarks at the event, AmCham Chair Virginia Foote said: “Today, the value of being a good corporate citizen goes beyond the pride and satisfaction of providing simple altruistic support for worthy goals. Strong and consistent CSR policies have become a cornerstone of the identity of many brands with customer bases that strongly identify with causes championed by businesses, from ethical sourcing to contractor working conditions to carbon footprints and a thousand other issues in between. Even in this challenging time of uncertainty and anxiety, AmCham members stepped up their CSR efforts to help address society’s needs during the Covid-19 crisis.”
The event also featured election results for the 2022 AmCham Board of Governors as AmCham Hanoi assumes the organization’s National Chair role on January 1.
Reflecting on the great CSR programs that many AmCham members operate in Vietnam, AmCham Executive Director Adam Sitkoff said, “The US business community knows that social distancing does not mean social disengagement.” Mr. Sitkoff added that AmCham Hanoi is also working in partnership with the Global Task Force on Pandemic Response (GTF), a publicprivate partnership run by the US Chamber of Commerce that mobilizes and delivers resources across the globe. The GTF is working to quickly donate around $1 million of diagnostic and testing equipment including rapid antigen tests, PCR testing equipment, and genomic sequencing systems as part of the ongoing effort by both the US business community and government to support Vietnam's Covid-19 response and recovery.
