Being the only 100% foreign-invested enterprise in the labor-intensive industry reached such a high export revenue, Zamil Steel Vietnam was granted Vietnam Export Award last week in Hanoi.

Zamil Steel Vietnam has been presented the Export Award 2004 by the Ministry of Trade for its achievements of export in the year 2004 with high and effective growth rate. The company export revenue for 2004 increased by 182 per cent in comparison with 2003 and reached US$23 million.
Zamil Steel Vietnam exceeded requirements of the Ministry of Trade for foreign-invested enterprises, according to which they must have export rate over US$10 million and 2004 export valued up 20 per cent against 2003 to receive its award.

With a network of 17 area offices over Vietnam and other countries in the region, Zamil Steel Vietnam has started exporting since year 2000 with initial quantity of export 1,500MT of pre-engineered steel buildings per year but the quantity grew steadily to reach the current 18,000MT of pre-engineered steel buildings per year.

The main export markets for Zamil Steel Vietnam’s products of pre-engineered steel buildings are countries in the Southeast Asia region including Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore. Besides, it also includes Japan and a few special projects to places like Bangladesh, Nigeria and even Mongolia.

“Pre-engineered steel buildings produced by Zamil Steel Vietnam have fully met requirements of both domestic and foreign clients in export markets. Once our second factory in Dong Nai comes into operation next year, the export will soar,” said Mr. George Kobrossy, General Director of Zamil Steel Vietnam.

One of the significant successes Zamil Steel Vietnam achieved earlier this year is the company has exported its first pre-engineered steel buildings to Japan. Apart from the special design conditions (which includes seismic consideration), raw material and quality control management of Zamil Steel Vietnam have been under very strong scrutiny by the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards Committee) inspectors. In order to get a permit from Building Authority of Japan for the import of Zamil Steel pre-engineered buildings to Japan, much efforts needs to be taken to bring our quality product and our system into a higher degree. At the same time, the Japanese standards of Quality are rather different from all other markets that Zamil Steel has been, as they pay very much attention to very small and minor details. The requirements are often to near perfection and Zamil Steel Vietnam has passed the most stringent quality checks and hence was allowed to export to Japan.

“It is an important event for Zamil Steel because we had sold many buildings to Japanese clients and contractors all over the world except Japan. We expect Japan market to be large and probably contribute to 7.5 per cent of production capacity in 3 years' time,” said Dennis Leu, Marketing Manager of Zamil Steel Vietnam.

Zamil Steel is also carefully studying the demands and requirements of every potential markets. The United States of America and Australia could be the next export markets for Zamil Steel as the company is now looking forward to a few associates and distributors to be appointed in those countries. Once the second factory in Dong Nai inaugurates, export activities are bound to increase.
