Vietnam-Japan Exhibition on Supporting Industries Offers Business Opportunities
The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) will co-operate to organise the ‘Vietnam-Japan Exhibition on Supporting Industries’ at the Melia Hotel, Hanoi on November 28 and 29. This is to implement the content of a joint initiative on promoting supporting industries for automobile, motorbike, electric and electronic manufacturing and assembly industries.
Kenjiro Ishiwata, chief representative of Jetro in Vietnam, said that Japanese manufacturing and assembly enterprises operating in Vietnam, such as Yamaha, would have to pay high transportation costs if they ordered supporting products from Japan, Indonesia or Malaysia. As a result, their products were highly priced. With strong supporting industries in Vietnam, Japanese enterprises operating in Vietnam would be able to beat other Japanese enterprises in other countries.
Different from other exhibitions, where companies introduce their products in the hope of selling them to customers, at the exhibition of supporting industries, Japanese enterprises display automobile and motorbike accessories they want to buy from Vietnamese enterprises. Phan Dang Tuat, director of the Industrial Strategy and Policy Institute, the Ministry of Industry, said that as Japanese had not found suitable supporting product suppliers or outsourcers, they would introduce products they need to Vietnamese manufacturers, who could manufacture on their demand.
Ngo Van Thoan, director of Vietrade, said that the exhibition aimed to serve small and medium-sized enterprises. This would be an opportunity for market development and on-the-spot export of Vietnamese enterprises. This will also help Japanese enterprises in Vietnam increase the proportion of locally-made accessories and parts at competitive prices.
The exhibition will be a chance for management agencies to evaluate the development of supporting industries in Vietnam, thus helping them issue suitable policies for the industries. The Jetro representative added that the organisation would provide free pavilions to enterprises joining the exhibition, helping Vietnamese manufacturers contact Japanese customers. It would provide consultancy services on goods to be displayed at the exhibition for Vietnamese enterprises. Japanese enterprises operating in Hong Kong and Singapore will attend the event.
