Another 5-Star Hotel Planned in Central Heritage Site
Authorities in Hoi An ancient town in central Quang Nam province has the given green light for a project to build a five-star hotel in the World Heritage Site.
It will be one of two main constructions under a luxury resort, which covers 7.5 hectares in Cam An ward. The other construction is a maritime entertainment area.
The hotel will comprise of 100 well-equipped rooms, investor, Hoi An – Pacific Investment Joint Stock Company said.
Total cost for the complex is estimated at VND190 billion (over US$12 million).
Works will be kicked off in early December and completed by early 2007.
Hoi An and the holy land of My Son are two World Heritage Sites in Quang Nam and among five UNESCO-recognized sites in Vietnam.
Dating from the 15th to the 19th century, Hoi An is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a regional port. Its buildings and streets reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that combined to produce this unique heritage site.
Hoi An carries several cultural, architectural and historical features of Japan as for centuries ships often brought businessmen from the Rising Sun nation to the coastal trading center.
During the Summer Festival 2005, Hoi An received some 60,000 tourists including 40,000 international arrivals.
According to local authorities, 2006 will be the peak time for the hospitality sector as Quang Nam has won the communist Government’s approval to hold the National Tourism Year 2006, which is titled “Cultural Heritage Site, Folk Festivals, Traditional Craft Villages & Eco-Tourism”.
