Sweden Shares Development Experience with Vietnam
The Vietnam Social Science Institute, the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation (SIDA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly organised a workshop on Swedish development models in Hanoi on November 9.
The workshop is part of the cooperation project of “providing assistance for reviewing 20 years of renovation.” A Swedish expert delegation has presented research results on the welfare state of Sweden as well as industrial polices, political system and business management works to Vietnamese partners. The seminar will provide experience for Vietnam to reach a higher level of economic development. Professor Ari Korko, research director of Stockholm Economics University, said that previously, before Sweden began its high-speed industrialisation process, it had pumped vast investments into education and law. In spite of having experienced a severe economic depression, Sweden still ranked sixth in the world in terms of the human development index in 2005. (Human development index is released by the UNDP). Mr Ari said Vietnam will draw similarities between Sweden and Vietnam.
Mr. Subinay Nandy, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam, said, the renovation review is a special chance not only for reviewing changes in Vietnam in the past two decades but also for considering policies for the future.
