In order to meet requirements in tightening quality, hygiene and safety of aquatic products exported to the United States and Canada, the Ministry of Fisheries has recently decided to accelerate checks in aquatic products to be exported to these markets.

Accordingly, all tra/basa fish, shrimps and crabs will be checked for quality and safety. Tra/basa fish exported to the United States will be checked for the satisfaction of Malachite Green (MG), Leucomalachite Green (LMG) and Fluoroquinolone (Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin and Flumequine) criteria, exported shrimps will be checked for Chloramphenicol (CAP) and Nitrofurans (NTRs) criteria and crabs will be checked for Chloramphenicol. Tra and basa exported to Canada will be checked for Chloramphenicol, Green Malachite and Leucomalachite Green criteria.

The Department for Management of Aquatic Quality, Safety, Hygiene and Veterinary Medicine will be responsible for granting quality, hygiene and safety certificates for all products exported to the United States and Canada.

Quality control labs, which meet the ISO 17025 certificate or equivalents, are allowed to verify exported products. Enterprises must inform the Department of the names of labs they want to send samples to.
