The Consultative Group (CG) for Vietnam will hold its annual meeting on December 6-7, 2005 in Hanoi, Vietnam, announced the World Bank in Vietnam on November 24.
The meeting will focus on the following topics: Direction, tasks and solutions for the successful implementation of the socio-economic development plan, 2006-2010; Opportunities and challenges for Vietnam’s integration with the global economy; and Harmonization, disbursement and aid effectiveness.
A separate Vietnam Business Forum with private investors - domestic and foreign - will be held on December 5 in Hanoi, and is being organized by the World Bank Group's private sector arm -- the International Finance Corporation in cooperation with Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The Consultative Group for Vietnam consists of participants from the Government of Vietnam and representatives of about 50 bilateral and multilateral donors to Vietnam. The Government delegation will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, and will include senior representatives from key ministries and governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, and the State Bank of Vietnam. The Chairmen of the CG are Mr. Vo Hong Phuc, Minsiter of Planning and Investment, and Klaus Rohland, Country Director of the World Bank in Vietnam.
The Consultative Group meetings provide a forum for a frank discussion of the opportunities and challenges facing Vietnam. They have become a critical forum for discussions on policies and partnerships between the donor community and the Government of Vietnam. The 12th CG Meeting was held in Hanoi on December 1-2, 2004 where donor countries and international development organizations indicated a record amount of $3.4 billion in support of Vietnam’s poverty reduction and development agenda.
