Vietnam’s national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has just received its tenth Boeing 777-200ER from the US aircraft maker Boeing at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

This is the sixth Boeing 777 aircraft that Vietnam Airlines has leased through the International Lease Finance Corp since April 2003. It also owns four 777-200ERs which it directly bought from Boeing and put into service in late 2003.

"A fleet of 10 Boeing 777s is a key element in our business plan and provides Vietnam Airlines with a significant international presence," said Vietnam Airlines Director Nguyen Xuan Hien.

Besides, the carrier now also operates another four Boeing 767-300s, ten Airbus 320s, six A321s, nine ATR-72s and two Fokker-70s.

It plans to expand the fleet to 75 aircraft by 2010.

The newly delivered airplane is loaded with a special cargo of textbooks collected by Seattle University to donate to Vietnam National University in support of the development of English-language technical degree capabilities in Vietnam.
