President of Uruguay Tabare Vazquez announced he desired to tour Vietnam next year to promote relations with Vietnam after a long period of limited cooperation.

The announcement was made at a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ngoc Dien in the capital Montevideo on February 2.

The state leader also made an invitation to the Vietnamese government to send a high-ranking delegation to visit Uruguay in the near future.

Vietnam and Uruguay established diplomatic relation in August 1993. The two countries have yet to set up representative agencies in their partner land. The Embassy of Vietnam in Argentina is in charge of affairs in Uruguay and the Uruguay agency in Japan does the same for relations with Vietnam.

Trade and investment collaborations between the two sides are limited.
