As a part of APEC Summit 2006, Vietnam Chamber for Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has officially taken the post of President of APEC Business Advice Council (ABAC). Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Vice President of VCCI, will undertake ABAC President in 2006.

"APEC will hold four official meetings in 2006, of which, the 4th meeting in November, 2006 will open in Hanoi and also be the forum for ABAC and APEC leaders. Particularly, the Hanoi meeting will attract the presence of more than 500 top world enterprise leaders. This is really a great opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to enhance their cooperation and business relations with APEC businessmen", Mr. Dung said.

Probably saying, this is a rare opportunity since it takes at least 21 years to experience such a summit with the full presence of such top world leaders and businessmen. APEC intends to invite leaders as the President of the US, China President, Japan Prime Minister, Russia President etc. to participate in dialogues with Vietnam enterprises.

The slogan for this year APEC programme is "Towards a prosperous and harmonious APEC community". Based on the trend, Vietnam initiates some innovations as assisting small and medium-size enterprises in access to market and capital resources, promoting the development of regional enterprise prestige assessment skill, enhancing the relation between small and medium-size enterprises and multinational corporations.

Speaking at the press conference introducing ABAC and APEC 2006 Activities, Mr Hoang Van Dung said the APEC Summit held in Vietnam in November 2006 is a good opportunity for Vietnam enterprises to enhance their cooperation and international integration.

ABAC was founded in November 1995 by APEC economic leaders so as to satisfy the private sector's requests for consulting the leaders on regional business issues. It is the only officially-functioning Non-Governmental Oganisation represented for the independent voice of businessmen in APEC. Besides its main duty, ABAC also is responsible for supervising APEC activity process in investment and trade liberalisation, recommending economic leaders activities for extensive business environment improvement.
