Export of Quota-managed Textiles and Garments to US up 65 Per cent
Export turnover of quota-managed textiles and garments to the US reached US$152 million in January 2006, up by 65 per cent against that of US$95 million in January 2005, according to the Textile and Apparel Quota Regulation Division of the Ministry of Trade.
In January 2006, seven categories reached ten per cent and six categories reached over six per cent of total quotas. Concretely, category 359/659 S (swimming clothes) reached 18.19 per cent, category 342/642 reached 15.11 per cent.
Apart from categories with high export volume against the same period last year, there were many categories of goods, which were exported in January 2006, such as categories 200, 301, 332, 434, 448, 620 and 645/646.
According to the analysis of the Textile and Apparel Quota Regulation Division, one of the subjective factors deciding the performing results in January 2006 was the automated granting of visas.
The division noted enterprises about outsourcing prices/FOB prices when they negotiated with foreign partners to gain highest prices when China’s quotas of textile and apparel export to the US face limits in terms of costs, and China’s quotas for some categories remain high.
