US$29Mln Cargo Terminal to be Built at Noi Bai Int'l Airport

The Government has approved a project to build a cargo terminal at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport at a total investment cost of US$29 million, according to the North Airports Authorities.
 
The terminal, which is set to cover an area of 44,000sq.m, will be capable of handling more than 260 million tons of goods per year. The Vietnam Construction Import-Export Corporation (Vinaconex) under the Ministry of Construction will implement this project.
 
The construction is scheduled to be completed in 2007.
 
In related news, Vietnam's aviation industry needs an investment of US$12 billion for development in 2005-2025 period. According to deputy general director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Dinh Xuan Huong, CAAV has invested large amounts in building new facilities and upgrading existing ones to meet the rising demand for air transport.
 
The country’s aviation market is forecast to grow 12-14 per cent a year by 2010, 9-11 per cent in 2010-2015 and 10-12 per cent in 2015-2020.
 
CAAV currently runs 22 airports across the country, including three international airports – Tan Son Nhat, Hanoi’s Noi Bai and Danang Airport in the central region.
