Son Tay Builds Advanced New Rural Areas Associated With Tourism

Building new rural areas is a major policy of the Party and State to promote agricultural production development, change the face of rural areas and constantly improve the material and spiritual life of the people. Communes in Son Tay town are making efforts to complete the prescribed criteria, contributing to gradually building rural areas into livable places both materially and spiritually, thereby building the locality to develop more and more comprehensively.

In 2023, Son Tay town strives to build two communes, Xuan Son and Co Dong, to achieve advanced new rural areas, and Kim Son commune to achieve model new rural areas. To complete this goal, the town has developed a detailed plan to determine the content of the work; assign specific tasks to each department, branch, and People's Committee of the communes, ensuring implementation according to the set plan and schedule.

According to Mr. Ngo Dinh Ngu, Chairman of Son Tay town, up to now, 6/6 communes of Son Tay town have met the new rural standards, of which 2 communes have met the advanced new rural standards: Kim Son and Thanh My. In 2023, the town strives to have 2 more communes, Xuan Son and Co Dong, meet the advanced new rural standards; Kim Son commune meets the model new rural standards. Immediately after being recognized as a commune meeting the advanced new rural standards in 2020, the entire political system of Kim Son commune focused on leading, directing, organizing propaganda, mobilizing people to unite, and working together to complete the model new rural criteria according to regulations. The commune determined to focus on promoting socio-economic development, investing in infrastructure as a basis to improve people's lives in the area. Many important traffic projects have been implemented such as: Construction of drainage systems on inter-village and inter-commune roads; renovate and upgrade a number of roads running through the locality, including provincial road 416.

Nhà Duối, Son Tay

Up to now, 100% of the commune, inter-commune, village and inter-village roads have been concreted and asphalted. The infrastructure system: electricity - roads - schools - stations of Kim Son has been invested and upgraded more and more synchronously. In particular, Kim Son has invested in upgrading and renovating local cultural institutions; building a model of applying high technology in the production and processing of agricultural products and food... Currently, Kim Son has many typical economic development models such as: Raising bees for honey, raising dairy cows, chickens, pigs, growing herbs, fruit trees,... Including the model of raising bees for honey of Kim Son Agricultural Service Cooperative with the typical product "Kim Son - Son Tay honey". Currently, the cooperative has nearly 40 households raising about 2,000 bee colonies, producing more than 35,000 liters of honey/year. In addition, thanks to digital transformation, many Kim Son communes of Son Tay have completed the construction of new model rural areas and developed community tourism... For example, in Kim Son commune, currently 98.5% of households have internet connection and use smartphones; 7/7 villages have established smart communication groups through the Zalo group application with 1,399 participating members... Notably, through digital transformation, Kim Son has promoted and developed tourism. In 2023, Long Ho village of Kim Son commune was recognized by the City People's Committee as a tourist destination of the city, marking a new direction in local economic development. Tourism development not only generates revenue from accommodation but also helps the locality introduce and sell typical agricultural products, OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program), such as Kim Son honey, fresh cow's milk, pearls...

In Duong Lam commune, the focus is on shifting towards reducing the proportion of agricultural production to 14.9%; increasing the proportion of trade, services, small-scale industry and prioritizing the development of trade and tourism. On that basis, the commune encourages and creates conditions to expand rural economic types, such as: Individual economy, households, cooperatives, cooperatives; supporting and promoting the development of trade and service economy. Thanks to that, Duong Lam commune has built OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program) such as: "Braised Grass Carp in Clay Pot" of Duong Lam Village Kitchen business; handicraft products of artisan Nguyen Tan Phat; developing many economic models with high efficiency, revenue of hundreds of millions of VND/year such as: Family flower garden model combined with experiential tourism; model combining food and beverage services - experiential tourism - photography - homestay...

Duong Lam ancient village

Duong Lam ancient village is also a place to preserve and conserve a precious cultural and historical treasure, an ancient land of "geomancy and talent", the birthplace of national heroes, celebrities, talented scholars, contributing to the cause of building and defending the country, such as: King Phung Hung, King Ngo Quyen, Third Prize winner Giang Van Minh... Promoting the advantages of the locality, Duong Lam commune has promoted the development of tourism economy, contributing to bringing revenue to the locality and the people.

According to Secretary of the Party Committee of Duong Lam commune Nguyen Dang Thao, tourism in the ancient village has been promoted, making an important contribution to the economic development of the locality. In the 9 months of 2024, the commune welcomed more than 140,000 visitors to the ancient village, bringing in billions of VND in revenue. In addition, tens of thousands of students from junior high and primary schools in the town, city and neighboring localities came to visit and learn about the traditional values, culture, history, and ancient village relics.

Chairwoman of Duong Lam Commune People's Committee Pham Thi Le Thuy said that the commune has achieved and basically achieved 13/19 criteria for advanced new rural areas. Besides the advantages, the commune still faces many difficulties, and needs support from all levels and sectors, and solutions to help the commune complete the remaining criteria related to: Planning, traffic, education, environment, etc. With the efforts of the entire political system and the people, Duong Lam commune is determined to soon reach the goal of meeting the standards of advanced new rural areas.

With the achieved results, in the coming time, Son Tay town will continue to promote propaganda and mobilize people to actively participate in building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas. At the same time, maintain and improve the quality of achieved criteria, strive to implement unachieved criteria; continue to focus on investment to complete rural infrastructure.
