Recently, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held the launch ceremony for the 2025 Electricity Conservation Ambassador Competition, a significant event aimed at promoting energy-efficient practices, ensuring national energy security, protecting the environment, and fostering sustainable development. The competition seeks to spread the message of electricity conservation to all segments of society, from households to businesses and organizations.

Over the years, the Ministry has implemented comprehensive measures to enforce the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation, including issuing guidelines, establishing energy performance standards, supporting businesses to improve electricity efficiency, and intensifying public awareness campaigns. Thanks to these efforts, combined with widespread societal participation, the National Target Program for 2016-2020 saved approximately 5.65% of total energy consumption, equivalent to billions of kWh of electricity. The electricity conservation movement has shown positive results, with annual commercial electricity savings rising from 1.5% in 2015 to over 2% since 2020.

In 2025, Vietnam’s national power system faces significant challenges, with the economy projected to grow over 8% and electricity demand expected to surge by 12-13%. Amid limited power supply, electricity conservation is no longer optional but a critical necessity to ensure stable development and meet the country’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050. The Ministry is revising power development plans, promoting a competitive electricity market, strengthening legal frameworks, and considering amendments to the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation to enforce stricter regulations while prioritizing focused electricity conservation campaigns.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Innovation, Green Transition, and Industrial Promotion, emphasized: “Electricity conservation is a shared responsibility across society. The 2025 Electricity Conservation Ambassador Competition aims to inspire creativity, spread the message of conservation, ease pressure on the national power system, and support international environmental commitments.”

Organized in a theatrical format, the competition encourages innovative ideas, practical models, and real-life stories about electricity conservation, ranging from small household actions to creative solutions in offices, businesses, and communities. Entries must be 5-10 minute video clips delivering meaningful and innovative messages about efficient electricity use. Beyond identifying outstanding ambassadors, the competition serves as a platform to share experiences and scale up effective conservation models nationwide.

Eligible participants include energy sector employees from major corporations, organizations, educational institutions under the Ministry, and all citizens. A panel of experts in energy, media, and the arts will evaluate entries based on creativity, scientific accuracy, aesthetics, communication impact, and practical applicability. The judging process is transparent and fair to ensure the selection of the best works.

The competition offers 22 awards: one Grand Prize (VND 30 million), one First Prize (VND 25 million), three Second Prizes (VND 20 million each), four Third Prizes (VND 15 million each), 10 Consolation Prizes (VND 7 million each), and additional special awards.

Submissions are accepted from the launch date until July 30, 2025, via email at cuocthitietkiemdien@gmail.com or in person at Industry and Trade Newspaper, Floors 10-11, 655 Pham Van Dong, Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 2025 in Hanoi.
