In the first half of 2025, Bat Trang’s estimated state budget revenue totaled over VND69 billion, and its per capita income exceeded VND84 million a year.

Currently, over 90% of households in the traditional pottery village of Bat Trang are engaged in ceramic production while the remainder provide support services such as materials supply, painting, casting and product distribution through stalls at the central market. In recent years, powered by scientific and technological application, Bat Trang ceramic products have undergone continuous design innovation and quality improvement to better meet consumer tastes.

Mr. Hoang Tien Dung, Chairman of the Bat Trang People’s Committee, said, the commune puts a premium on mobilizing all available resources and leveraging its local strengths to further boost socioeconomic development following the administrative restructuring.

The newly rearranged Bat Trang commune comprises the entire natural area and population of Kim Duc commune, the majority of the area and all of the population of the former Bat Trang commune, and parts of the natural areas and populations of Da Ton commune, Trau Quy town, Thach Ban ward and Cu Khoi ward. The commune includes three long-standing ceramic villages: Bat Trang, Giang Cao and Kim Lan, located on the left bank of the Red River, all recognized as national intangible cultural heritages. Bat Trang has 1,200 production and business households and over 300 ceramic artisans. The products of these craft villages embody refined crafting techniques, artistic creativity, aesthetics and a rich cultural identity passed down through generations. These qualities make Bat Trang ceramics popular with both domestic and international customers.

Bat Trang is also an attractive destination for craft village tourism and spiritual tourism in Hanoi. The commune is home to 47 cultural and historical relics, including 10 classified as national heritage sites and 20 recognized as city-level heritages. The “craft village tourism” model in Bat Trang has shown positive early signs. Not only can visitors explore the landscape but also engage in hands-on ceramic-making experiences, learn about production processes, and purchase authentic handmade products. This has created livelihoods for local residents on the one hand and enhanced the Bat Trang brand on the international market on the other.

A notable example is the “Center for Vietnamese Craft Villages’ Essence” in the ancient village of Bat Trang. It features exhibitions of Bat Trang ceramic history through different periods, hosts various trade fairs and cultural events, and includes a workshop for hands-on experiences tailored to tourists, researchers, students and learners. Another important site is the Kim Lan Ancient Ceramics Museum, which houses around 300 artifacts, mostly ceramics and pottery tools, highlighting the glorious past of the craft village, from terracotta to glazed ceramics, reflecting the history of Vietnamese ceramics.

Pham Huy Khoi, Head of the Economic and Budget Committee under the Bat Trang People's Council, said: Leveraged by its advantages as a traditional ceramic producer, Bat Trang commune will continue to focus on developing traditional craft villages together with tourism so as to make tourism a key economic sector. To exploit the corridor along the banks of the Red River, the commune plans to develop eco-tourism products and riverside farm models while integrating spiritual and cultural heritage sites such as temples, pagodas and craft villages into its tourism offerings.

To better serve tourists, Bat Trang has partnered with tech companies to roll out Tourism 4.0 initiatives, digitize data on historical sites, tourist routes, certified shopping points and multilingual introductions to craft villages. Free Wi-Fi has been provided at 19 major tourist attractions and planned to extend coverage across the commune. In addition, Bat Trang has organized training sessions on community-based tourism for officials and residents to improve their tour guiding and translation expertise to serve visitors. The commune also launched its official website and tourism application, introduced local tourism businesses, and hosted Bat Trang cultural and tourism fairs.

Lying by the Red River, Bat Trang is also a large-scale producer of clean, safe agricultural products for Hanoi and neighboring provinces. Typically, Van Duc Agricultural Production and Trading Service Cooperative is running the city’s largest safe vegetable cultivation area of over 200 ha.

Nguyen Van Minh, Director of the Cooperative, stated that the annual output value per hectare is about VND700 million. Van Duc Cooperative has also joined the OCOP Program and currently got OCOP certificates for 17 products, rated 3- to 4-star rankings. Moving forward, Van Duc will continue developing commercial agricultural production based on specialized farming areas. The cooperative also plans to build 5-8 pilot and demonstration models applied with new techniques in vegetable and flower production, and to maintain and expand trademark protection for one to two flagship products.

From now to the end of 2025, Bat Trang will realize its ambitious goals of boosting economic growth, meeting and exceeding all assigned targets, eliminating poverty, having over 90% of households and residential groups granted cultural entity certificates, and accelerating digital transformation toward building a digital government, digital economy and digital society. The commune will also continue to ask the city for accelerating infrastructure investment in transportation, public parks and development projects to lay the groundwork for developing services and shaping its future economic direction, said Chairman of the Bat Trang People’s Committee Hoang Tien Dung.
