The Bong Mieu Gold Mining Joint Venture Co. yesterday commenced operations at the Ho Gan gold mine, which will yield 180,000 tons of ore and 600kg of pure gold annually in the first phase, in the central Quang Nam province.
.
The Ho Gan mine, one of three major mines at the Bong Mieu gold quarry in Phu Ninh district, has been examined and explored for almost 15 years.

The mine has an estimated ore reserve of one million tons with a content of 3.85 grams of gold per ton, of which 520,000 tons are productive.

In the next three years, the company will put the Nui Kem mine and the Ho Ray Thao Trang mine into production in order to raise the ore processing capacity of the Bong Mieu gold quarry to 300,000 tons annually.

The company invested US$7 million in an environment-friendly gold processing plant to process gold from the Ho Gan mine. The plant has created jobs for 250 local people, preventing illegal gold exploitation and the use of chemicals causing environmental pollution.

The Bong Mieu Gold Mining Joint Venture Co., which was established in 1991, has so far injected US$14 million into surveying and protecting the Bong Mieu gold quarry.
