A delegation of nine enterprises from Germany’s Baden-Wurttemberg State will visit Hanoi on May 7-9 under the guidance of the representative office of the Germany Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Trade Promotion Department under the Ministry of Trade.

These companies, which operate in fields of information technology, electronics, engineering, health, fire and explosion prevention and fighting and investment consultancy, aim to introduce their products and services to Vietnamese partners and also desire to seek cooperation opportunities in the country.

On this occasion, the representative office is to hold a meeting for Vietnamese and German firms to exchange information of mutual concern and to discuss potential business opportunities.

Last month a delegation from the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, accompanied by around 100 German firms, arrived in Hanoi and expressed their interests in infrastructure, mechanical engineering, bio-technology, energy, food processing industry, environment, shipbuilding, IT and telecom in Vietnam. The delegation also agreed with Hanoi authorities to open an information channel in order to create favorable conditions for cooperation between Hanoi’s and Germany’s business circles.

Vietnam and Germany established diplomatic ties on September 23, 1975 but it was not until 1990 that these ties began to take off.

Germany now ranks fifth among 25 EU countries and 20th among 69 countries and territories in the world investing in Vietnam, with 72 valid projects registered at $344.09 million.

The two countries posted two-way trade turnover of $1.7 billion in 2004, compared to $1.4 billion in 2003.
