Viettel Signs up 3Mln Mobile Phone Subscribers
Vietnam’s third-largest mobile phone operator Viettel announced Thursday that it has signed up three million mobile phone subscribers, maintaining its position as the fastest growing mobile phone network in the country.
The military-run Vietnam Military Telecom Corp. (Viettel) activated its Viettel Mobile network in October 2004.
Competitive call charges, subscription tariffs and nationwide coverage are core rationales for the mouthwatering expansion of the Viettel Mobile network.
To attract users, Viettel frequently introduces seductive promotion programs on national public holidays.
Currently, Viettel is applying a sales promotion program to celebrate the National Reunification and May Day. The corporation will present six Innova sedans for the luckiest new subscribers and numerous attractive gifts for others.
Out of the three-millionth subscriber, Phan Thi Thanh Huong from central Binh Dinh province, was presented a cash prize of VND30 million (USUS$1,900).
On the occasion, the operator announced a gift of 900 million free-of-charge blocks (one block equals 1 second) to all Viettel mobile network users, or 300 one-second blocks for each subscriber.
Vietnam currently has more than nine million active mobile subscribers, served by five mobile carriers of VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel, S-Fone and EVN Telecom with VinaPhone and MobiFone being the largest with 3.87 million and 3.44 million subscribers, respectively.
Last year more than 4.5 million new subscribers signed up for accounts, making Vietnam one of the world’s fastest-growing mobile telecom markets in the world.
