Philips, a Dutch group with experience of over 100 years in electronics, built their light bulb plant in the Bien Hoa 2 industrial park in February 2002 with a total investment of US$2.4 million. The first ever foreign-invested lighting plant in Vietnam with modern technology of Philips attracted around 200 skilled workers.

By March 2006, the plant had manufactured over 10 million light bulbs and exported two million. Philips Vietnam’s products are of high quality, meeting the international standard, an in particular, they are energy-saving products. There are two main groups of products, including thin tubular fluorescent lamps of 18 and 36 watts and energy-saving bulbs of five and 18 watts.

In recent years, the increased demand for electricity has added pressure on electric power plants in Vietnam. While the Vietnamese Government launched an energy saving programme, Philips Vietnam has made a contribution by manufacturing energy-saving lamps.
Philips Vietnam’s lamps have a lifetime of 6,000 hours. Eight watt lamps produce the same light level with other 40-watt lamps. Philips Vietnam’s tubular fluorescent lamps use krypton gas for enhanced brilliance and extended range.

So far, many major works in Vietnam such as the Hanoi Opera House, the Ba Dinh Meeting Hall, the My Dinh National Stadium, the Hang Day Stadium, the Noi Bai International Airport, the Hue Airport, the Da Nang Airport, the Ben Nghe Seaport, Nguyen Hue Boulevard and CMC Supermarket in Ho Chi Minh Cityk, and the My Thuan Bridge in Tien Giang province, have used lamps made by Philips Vietnam.

Apart from lighting products, Philips has marketed other electronic products, such as televisions, irons, CD-R/RW, LCD and medical image products, which have been highly spoken of by Vietnamese consumers.

Philips Vietnam has actively joined social activities. Alex Ngian, general director of Philips Vietnam said that the company always supported Vietnam’s national programmes on educating people of energy saving. Also, the company has promoted its activities to help local consumers understand further about Philips energy-saving lamps. If everybody uses energy in a saving manner, each year, Vietnam can save billions of Vietnam dong. Philips has pledged to offer Vietnamese consumers more options for the purpose.
