China, S. Korea, Germany: Vietnam's Biggest Rubber Importers in Jan-April

China, South Korea and Germany were the three biggest importers of Vietnamese rubber products in the first four months of this year, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Trade.
 
In the January-April period of 2006, Vietnam, the world’s fourth largest rubber producer and exporter, sold 186,334 tons of rubber abroad, valued at $311.45 million, presenting on year increases of 44.2 per cent in volume and 103.78 per cent in value.
 
In April alone, the country exported 27,400 tons of rubber products, earning $50.68 million in revenue, up 35.59 per cent on year in volume and 102.7 per cent in value.
 
Among the major importers, China still remained Vietnam’s biggest rubber consumer as it imported around 128,588 tons of rubber products worth more than $215.8 million in the first four months of this year, accounting for 69 per cent of Vietnam’s total rubber shipment volume during the time.
 
In April alone, it brought 19,690 tons of rubber to China, mainly via the Mong Cai border gate, including 5,000 tons of SVR10 at an average price of $1,883 per ton, 3,451 tons of RSS3 at $1,870 and 3,442 tons of SVR3L. April’s import turnover was estimated at more than $36 million, down 45.66 per cent on month in volume and 42.79 per cent in value but up 71.35 per cent on year in volume and 154.01 per cent in value.
 
Meanwhile, the second-ranked South Korea, spent more than $14,4 million importing 9,936 tons of rubber from Vietnam from January to April of 2006. In April, South Korea bought 1,110 tons, costing $1.945 million, up 25.14 per cent on volume and 92.77 per cent in value over April of 2005. 
 
Germany made itself the third largest rubber importer of Vietnam as it consumed around 7,473 tons of rubber from the country worth $12.87 million in the first four months of 2006.
 
Several other large importers of Vietnamese rubber are Taiwan, Russia, Japan who poured $10.265, $8.748 and $7.22 million into bringing in 5,877 tons, 4,375 tons and 3,827 tons of Vietnamese rubber, respectively, in the Jan-April period.
