Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), the country’s leading state-run garment producer, is striving to become one of the three top retailers in Vietnam.

To realize the target, Vinatex will build 80 trade centers, wholesale centers and shops nationwide between now and 2010.

In the Mekong Delta region alone which is targeted as a potential consumption market for garment and textile products, the group will construct a chain of supermarkets in the provinces of Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, Vinh Long and others.

Vinatex will open its supermarket in Can Tho City, the largest city in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, in the middle of this July. This will be the 29th Vinatex fashion supermarket, also the largest of the group to date, with a total selling area of 8,500sq.m.

The opening of the 29th supermarket is aimed to boost investment into building a supermarket system of Vinatex.

In the period of 2006-2010, the group plans to set up an additional 52 supermarkets in cities and provinces nationwide, including two luxury fashion centers, six large trade centers, seven wholesale centers and a fashion supermarket system.

The group targets to earn VND3.2 trillion (US$201.26 million) from domestic sales by 2010 through a supermarket system.
