VRC Needs US$30Bln to Build Four High-speed Railway Routes by 2015
The Vietnam Railway Corporation (VRC) is planning to initiate a project to construct four high-speed railway routes in the 2010-2015 period at an estimated costs of US$30 billion, state media reported.
The project that is aimed to replace the existing narrow railways of 1,000-mm in width with a double railway of 1,435-mm in width which will improve railway infrastructure and cut short traveling times and allow trains to travel at speeds of 160-300km/h.
Of the total investment, VRC will spend some US$10.36 billion on the 280-km Hanoi-Vinh railway route, US$14.8 billion on building the 400-km Nha Trang-Ho Chi Minh; US$3.7 billion for the 100-km Vung Tau-Ho Chi Minh route, US$2 billion on the 100-km Hanoi-Haiphong route from 2010-2015.
From 2016, VRC will also further carry out research and construct other routes such as Vinh-Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh-Can Tho, Hanoi-Lang Son rail routes.
However, VRC is not available for comment on investment sources.
