Washington Times Starts Special Issue on Vietnam
The broadsheet newspaper, the Washington Times, has started running a series of articles about Vietnam in light of the country’s imminent World Trade Organization (WTO) accession, state media said.
In the following weeks, the newspaper will run a number of stories featuring Vietnam in order to introduce the country to the American people and enterprises.
The first article issued on June 21 called on the US Congress to offer Vietnam the Permanent Normal Trade Relation (PNTR) to officially normalize relations between the two countries.
It explained that almost all nations in the world have received the trade status from congress except for countries barred because of terrorism or nuclear proliferation issues. Thus, an emerging economy such as Vietnam should quickly receive the status, it noted.
The story also explained that the market of Vietnam with a population of more than 80 million and a high-growth rate is a potential destination for American investors and business people.
